SPAR 2010 features 'Scan to BIM' track
by Bob Drake

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS — SPAR 2010, Spar Point Research LLC's seventh annual 3D imaging and positioning conference, will feature a full-day track called "Scan to BIM."  According to organizers, presentations will describe best-of-class BIM, GIS, and facility management data capture and modeling practices.

SPAR 2010 takes place Feb. 8-10, 2010, in The Woodlands, Texas, north of Houston. General topics include 3D laser scanning, mobile survey and mapping, dimensional control, digital heritage preservation, LIDAR, scan to BIM, CAD/GIS integration, security planning and forensics, and asset management.

Scan to BIM attendees can expect to learn how laser data is being used to create and validate BIM models for facility design, construction, and asset management; understand how much of this work can be automated; learn how construction BIM needs differ from asset management; and learn why some asset owners view field-verified BIM as necessary to not only reduce bid variance and construction change orders but as an important tool for energy analysis, conservation retrofits, and other sustainability initiatives.
