BIM service debuts for homebuilders

WOBURN, Mass. —  Simpad, a plan services company for homebuilders, developed a new 3D CAD building information modeling (BIM) service that the company says will solve a problem long thought to be the "Achilles' Heel" of homebuilders, specifically, how to obtain home plans that reflect the changes made by homebuyers during the sales and option process. The service will provide builders with "as-sold" construction drawings on-demand, at a fraction of the cost of making changes manually to their master plan sets. According to Simpad, the overall savings will be enormous to any builder who has ever constructed homes based on faulty or inaccurate plans.

With plans generated from a 3D model, builders will now be able to manage base-plan and option libraries effectively, generate lot-specific as-sold construction plans, and create detailed take-offs that include structural options selected during the sales process. Moreover, Simpad's service offers material quantity take-offs that reflect real-time information for estimators, which in turn provides the critical information needed to ensure that homes are built within as-sold budgets.

"Our new product will solve a core problem for builders by creating 3D CAD building information models that accurately represent the base plans and all structural options, exactly as-sold by the sales office," said Richard Kashian CEO of Simpad. "We will provide a level of accuracy that most builders today can only dream of, and we will do it very affordably."
