PHOENIX — Autodesk’s 61,000-square-foot office building in Waltham, Mass. received the LEED-CI Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The building earned 46 LEED credit points, exceeding the 42-credit level required for a Platinum rating. This award is in addition to the LEED Gold certification received for the building’s exterior shell.
The building’s design optimizes natural light to meet a crucial component to LEED platinum certification of daylighting, which mandates that at least 90 percent of workspaces be illuminated with natural daylight. The building’s designers utilized Autodesk Revit Architecture 3D and Autodesk Ecotect Analysis software to analyze where daylight would fall within the facility and determine which design option best satisfied the goal
As several of the LEED categories require built-in monitoring and control equipment to encourage sustainable operations, Autodesk incorporated multiple operations systems into the building’s initial design, enabling the company to measure future energy efficiencies downstream more accurately. Leveraging the data-rich 3D models created using Autodesk Revit Architecture during the project’s design, Autodesk now utilizes an intelligent building management system to modulate lighting, HVAC, and sound systems in response to space demand.
